Running and Winning high school workshop
Running and Winning is a one day, interactive leadership workshop for junior and senior girls at one Tucson area high school each fall. It is coordinated and presented by the League of Women Voters of Greater Tucson with current co-sponsors: the American Association of University Women and the YWCA of Southern Arizona.
Participants have a unique opportunity to learn from women who have served as elected officials. Like all League programs, Running and Winning is nonpartisan, not supporting or opposing any political party or candidate.
Participants’ activities include:

-

-
planning an election campaign, including assigning roles (e.g. campaign manager and candidate), developing materials, and writing a speech;
-
presenting their campaign and evaluating other groups’ campaigns;
-
participating in a mock election, voting for the best campaign idea, presentation and candidate;
-
swearing in of the mock election winning candidate; and
-

Running and Winning aims to foster participants’ leadership skills and interest in public service. The League’s goal is to increase the number of women who run for elected office.
