League of Women Voters of Greater Tucson (LWVGT) is fully committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in principle and in practice. LWVGT aims to build a participant base that is representative of all dimensions that make each individual unique. Our aim is to be inclusive, affirming, and welcoming of all identities. We intend to ensure that each individual has access to the same opportunities to grow, contribute, and develop within the organization. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are central to the organization's current and future success in engaging all individuals, households, communities, and policymakers in creating a more perfect democracy.

Would you like to have a greater understanding of the immigrant issues?
Would you like to have a tour of the both cities of Nogales on each side of the Border?

Several members of the DEI Committee had an introduction to and tour of Borderlinks - an immigration educational organization.  It was just a taste.  We realized that there was so much more to learn about immigration.

LWVGT, and DEI in particular, could contract with Borderlinks to provide education specifically designed for us.  Some sessions would be in person and others could be on Zoom.  Most training would be two hours.  Possible topics could include:
  • Immigration History and Time Line
  • A Legal Immigration Simulation - Pathways to Citizenship
  • Racism/White Supremacy
  • Mass Incarceration/Detention
  •  Action Planning/Reflection
The tour of the two Nogales could include walking along both sides of the wall, walking into Mexico, going to the Ruby Road Surveillance Tower.

If you would like to be part of a Committee to plan our immigration education please email dei@lwvtucson.com

DEI Movies
 DEI Movie Discussion

Many members have indicated that they would like to participate in discussions regarding movies with a DEI topic.  The group needs a coordinator.  This is a very simple task.  We would be happy to walk you through the steps. Interested?  Email dei@lwvtucson.com
