 What is This Week in Greater Tucson?  This Week in Greater Tucson (TWGT) will arrive in your inbox on most Monday mornings providing a quick overview of what is happening in the LWVGT in the coming week, the links for more information, and the links to the virtual meetings.  It will also provide information on events that may be of interest happening within the State of AZ and LWVUS.  
 
During the summer, This Week In Greater Tucson will be published again on Mondays: June 23, July 7, July 21, August 4, and August 18.  Regular weekly publication will resume Monday, September 1.

2025 Primaries Forums Flyer 5-30-2025

LWVGT is an all volunteer organization.  
Come meet new members, greet old friends, 
and work together to strengthen our democracy!
Volunteer opportunities are now open for several upcoming events.

These items are one time opportunities and commitments:

  • Evo A DeConcini Courthouse - AM Ceremony  10am – Noon;  PM Ceremony   1:30 - 3:30 pm - June 13, July 11, July 18, August 8, August 22, September 12, September 19
  • Voter Registration Table at Naturalization Ceremony (requires recent prior voter registration training): (Off-Site Ceremonies)  
    • Saturday, July 4  - Saguaro National Park  9 - 11 am
    • Wednesday, September 17 - Tumacacori National Historic Park  9 - 11 am
  • Public Programs: Social Security Works - June 12, 6 - 7 pmProgram on Zoom

ADVOCACY COMMITTEE
The Advocacy Committee of the League of Women Voters of Greater Tucson serves as the voice of our organization’s public policy positions. We speak up on critical local, state, and national issues—ensuring our research-backed stances are heard by decision-makers and the community alike. Through coalition work, public testimony, and civic engagement, we turn values into action. 2025 Legislative Breakfast

Are you passionate about advocacy & eager to engage with our elected officials? It’s time to plan the annual Legislative Breakfast planned for November 2025.                                                

This event fosters meaningful dialogue between our community & policymakers.
  • Committee chair / co-chairs: Needed to lead the planning efforts to ensure a successful event
  • Committee Members: Needed people to contribute ideas & skills from logistics to outreach

PUBLIC PROGRAMS COMMITTEE
 
The Public Program Committee sponsors diverse non-partisan educational programs that feature expert panel members and discussions that explore the impact of public policies on communities and citizens in Greater Tucson. The programs are free and open to the public, presented live at community locations, virtually on Zoom, and live-streamed on Facebook.

Volunteer Needs:
  • Moderators/Facilitators that introduces speakers and facilitates a discussion both virtually and in-person
  • Committee Members to help plan and execute programs
  • Gathering and asking questions from the audience both virtually and in-person


COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE
 
The Communications Committee and its subcommittees assure that the League effectively communicates trustworthy and timely information to our members and the public.  This is done through developing digital and print media and sharing information through our newsletters, website, social media, and press releases.
  • Creating, editing, and proofreading newsletters
  • Maintaining and updating our website
  • Dispersing information through press releases and social media

Pay the Rent 2025
We'll Pay the Rent!
 
We'll Pay the Rent is a fundraising project requesting members donate money that will go directly to paying the rent of the league office for one year. Members (and committees) can sponsor’ a day, week or month of the office rent. Donations requested are $30 for one day$200 for one week and $900 for one month. Details coming soon.

League in Action app

There is a new opportunity available for our League in Action/OutreachCircle. The action is to contact your elected officials to protect Health Care. If you have not downloaded the League in Action app, login to the website lwvtucson.org ;

click on the Member Tab; select Member Toolbox; scroll down to the Technology, Zoom and Equipment box; and find 'League in Action' app. Click on it and follow the directions to download the app and activate it. If you have any questions, please email technology@lwvtucson.com


The Conference Room or Front Office may be reserved for a meeting.  When scheduling the meeting on the LWVGT website calendar, select the Category "Conference Room IN USE". When the meeting appears on the Calendar, a yellow background will surround the meeting.  This should prevent double booking of the office space.

All LWVGT Board meetings are recorded on YouTube and available for viewing within a few days of the meeting.  These YouTube recordings may be found by logging onto the website as a member; click the Members tab; select Video Recordings 2025; select YouTube recording of the meeting you wish to view.  lwvtucson.org

LWVGT Office is closed for the summer. The Office will reopen Tuesday, September 2 at 10:30 AM.
